Summary
The Southern Company is a holding company with five regulated electric utilities in the U.S. Southeast: Alabama Power Company, Georgia Power Company, Gulf Power Company, Mississippi Power Company, and Savannah Electric and Power Company. Those five utilities provide electricity to 4.2 million retail customers in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Florida. The Southern Company also owns Southern Power Company, which owns and operates about 4,800 megawatts of non-regulated generating capacity in the U.S. Southeast. It also owns unregulated subsidiaries involved in gas retail and energy-related services.
