Founded in 1869, the Pittsburgh-based Mellon Financial Corporation operates principally as a financial holding company for its various operating subsidiaries. It provides asset management, private wealth management, asset servicing and payment solutions and investor services to corporations, institutions and high-net-worth individuals, primarily in the United States and Europe. In addition, Mellon Financial Corporation offers domestic commercial banking services principally to facilitate cross-selling its wide range of fee- and commission-based products and services. At March 31, 2007, Mellon Financial Corporation had $1.03 trillion in assets under management and $4.8 trillion in assets under custody or administration. It had a market capitalization of $18 billion as of April 27, 2007.
