Summary
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is a not-for-profit, non-share capital corporation established under the Electricity Restructuring Act, 2004 to (1) forecast electricity demand and the adequacy and reliability of supply for Ontario; (2) develop plans that include generation, demand management, conservation and transmission; (3) ensure adequate, reliable and secure electricity supply and resources in Ontario; (4) promote conservation; (5) facilitate the diversification of electricity supply; and (6) facilitate rate stability for certain types of consumers. OPA is not a Crown agent, and the Province of Ontario does not guarantee its obligations.
