DBRS Publishes Updated Methodology for North American Energy Utilities

DBRS has today released an updated methodology for rating North American Energy Utilities (Electric, Natural Gas and Pipelines). The publication of this methodology is part of DBRS’s continued effort to provide market participants with insights into the rationale behind DBRS’s rating opinions.

In addition to general business and financial risk considerations, the methodology reviews a number of rating considerations specific to the industry, including the following primary rating factors:

(1) Regulatory/contractual arrangements
(2) Capital spending
(3) Competitive environment
(4) Supply and demand considerations
(5) Extent of non-utility activities
(6) Business mix and diversification

DBRS has taken no rating actions as a result of this updated methodology.
