DBRS Publishes Final Rating Credit Funds Methodology, Updates Credit Fund Rating Scale

Structured Credit
May 27, 2016

DBRS has today released its methodology for credit funds, “Rating Credit Funds” (the Methodology).

This Methodology updates the criteria on which credit fund ratings are based.

The changes to the Methodology are deemed to be material. The Methodology allows for the inclusion of structured finance assets in a fund and clarifies the treatment of equities and defaulted assets. DBRS does not currently rate any funds under the existing methodology, and, as such, no rating actions will be taken as a result of this update. The changes are being made to accommodate assets typical in credit funds and would have neither a positive nor negative impact on a credit fund rating.

The Methodology is effective as of today, and no comments were received during the Request for Comment period.

In conjunction with this Methodology, DBRS has updated its “Credit Fund Rating Scale,” effective as of May 13, 2016. The scale itself did not change; however, language limiting the scale to corporate credit was removed for consistency with the Methodology.

DBRS criteria and methodologies are publicly available on its website www.dbrs.com under Methodologies.
