European Banks are required to comply with varying regulatory capital requirements and they can be relatively complex to comprehend due to the interaction between them. This research piece provides an overview of these requirements and is split into three sections. Section 1 focuses on the two binding regulatory capital requirements for European Banks based in the Eurozone. On top of that, Banks must also comply with one supervisory expectation which is not binding. In section 2 we analyse the different Pillars & Buffers Banks face. Lastly, in section 3 we explain the types of capital instruments that must be issued to fill the Pillars & Buffers.
