DBRS Morningstar Confirms and Upgrades Ratings on Ardmore Securities No.1 DAC
RMBSDBRS Ratings GmbH (DBRS Morningstar) confirmed and upgraded its ratings on the bonds issued by Ardmore Securities No.1 DAC as follows:
-- Class A notes confirmed at AAA (sf)
-- Class B notes upgraded to AA (high) (sf) from AA (sf)
-- Class C notes upgraded to AA (sf) from A (high) (sf)
The rating on the Class A notes addresses the timely payment of interest and the ultimate payment of principal on or before the legal final maturity date in August 2057. The ratings on the Class B and Class C notes address the ultimate payment of interest and principal on or before the legal final maturity date.
The rating actions follow an annual review of the transaction and are based on the following analytical considerations:
-- Portfolio performance, in terms of delinquencies, defaults, and losses, as of the February 2021 payment date.
-- Probability of default (PD), loss given default (LGD), and expected loss assumptions on the remaining receivables.
-- Current available credit enhancement to the notes to cover the expected losses at their respective rating levels.
-- Current economic environment and an assessment of sustainable performance, as a result of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The transaction is a securitisation incorporated in Ireland consisting of Irish residential mortgage loans originated and serviced by Ulster Bank Ireland DAC (Ulster Bank) and secured over properties in Ireland.
PORTFOLIO PERFORMANCE
As of February 2021, loans two to three months in arrears represented 0.12% of the outstanding portfolio balance, up from 0.05% in February 2020. The 90+ days delinquency ratio was 0.3%, up from 0.1% in the same period, and the cumulative loss ratio remained at 0.0%.
PORTFOLIO ASSUMPTIONS AND KEY DRIVERS
DBRS Morningstar conducted a loan-by-loan analysis of the remaining pool of receivables and has updated its base case PD and LGD assumptions, including coronavirus adjustments, to 1.4% and 7.5%, respectively.
CREDIT ENHANCEMENT
As of the February 2021 payment date, the credit enhancement to the Class A notes was 57.5%, up from 36.1% in February 2020. In the same period, the credit enhancement to the Class B notes was 35.0%, up from 21.9%, and the credit enhancement to the Class C notes was 15.3%, up from 9.6%. The credit enhancement is provided through subordination of the junior notes and the general reserve fund. The notes will always be paid down sequentially, which allows credit enhancement for the notes to build up over time as the notes amortise.
The transaction benefits from a reserve fund, which is split into a general reserve fund and a liquidity reserve fund. The nonamortising general reserve fund provides liquidity and credit support to the rated notes. The amortising liquidity reserve fund provides liquidity support to the Class A notes and is floored at EUR 25.0 million.
As of the February 2021 payment date, the general reserve fund stood at its target level of EUR 29.6 million and the liquidity reserve fund also stood at its target level of EUR 25.0 million.
The Bank of New York Mellon - Dublin Branch (BNYM-Dublin) acts as the account bank for the transaction. Based on the DBRS Morningstar private rating on BNYM-Dublin, the downgrade provisions outlined in the transaction documents, and other mitigating factors inherent in the transaction structure, DBRS Morningstar considers the risk arising from the exposure to the account bank to be consistent with the rating assigned to the Class A notes, as described in DBRS Morningstar's "Legal Criteria for European Structured Finance Transactions" methodology.
DBRS Morningstar analysed the transaction structure in Intex DealMaker.
The coronavirus and the resulting isolation measures have caused an economic contraction, leading to sharp increases in unemployment rates and income reductions for many borrowers. DBRS Morningstar anticipates that delinquencies may continue to increase in the coming months for many residential mortgage-backed security (RMBS) transactions, some meaningfully. The ratings are based on additional analysis and adjustments to expected performance as a result of the global efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
For this transaction, DBRS Morningstar increased the expected default rate for certain borrowers, incorporated a moderate reduction of collateral values, and considered reported payment holidays in its cash flow analysis.

To assess the impact of changing the transaction parameters on the rating, DBRS Morningstar considered the following stress scenarios as compared with the parameters used to determine the rating (the Base Case):
-- DBRS Morningstar expected a lifetime base case PD and LGD for the pool based on a review of the current assets. Adverse changes to asset performance may cause stresses to base case assumptions and therefore have a negative effect on credit ratings.
-- The base case PD and LGD assumptions for the remaining collateral pool are 1.4% and 7.5%, respectively.
-- The risk sensitivity overview below illustrates the ratings expected if the PD and LGD increase by a certain percentage over the base case assumption. For example, if the LGD increases by 50%, the rating on Class A would be expected to remain at AAA (sf), assuming no change in the PD. If the PD increases by 50%, the rating on Class A would be expected to remain at AAA (sf), assuming no change in the LGD. Furthermore, if both the PD and LGD increase by 50%, the rating on Class A would still be expected to remain at AAA (sf).
Class A Risk Sensitivity:
-- 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD and 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD and 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD and 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD and 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AAA (sf)
Class B Risk Sensitivity:
-- 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD and 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD and 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD and 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD and 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (high) (sf)
Class C Risk Sensitivity:
-- 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (sf)
-- 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD, expected rating of AA (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD, expected rating of AA (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD and 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (sf)
-- 25% increase in PD and 50% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (sf)
-- 50% increase in PD and 25% increase in LGD, expected rating of AA (sf)
