Summary

DBRS Morningstar released a commentary entitled “Global ABS 2023 Conference: Key Takeaways”, which summarises the major themes of this year’s Global ABS in-person conference held from June 13 to June 15 and was attended by a record number of over 4,500 participants. The panels explored a number of topical trends in the markets, but focused significantly on the following:

-- The increase in cost of living, tightening monetary policies and the effect these have on asset classes,
-- Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations,
-- The intersections between ESG and securitisation regulation, and
-- Emerging asset classes in structured finance.

“This year's conference returned to its traditional setting of sun, sea, and securitisation in Barcelona, with a gloomy backdrop of rising inflation, tightening monetary policies, rising geopolitical issues, and erratic spread movements. Despite this increased volatility, the general mood of the participants was relatively positive towards some ABS asset classes and the tone of the overall event was fairly upbeat”, said Mudasar Chaudry, Head of European Structured Finance Research at DBRS Morningstar.
