Morningstar DBRS is requesting comments on the proposed update to “Morningstar DBRS Criteria: Approach to Environmental, Social, and Governance Factors in Credit Ratings”, which may, upon the close of the request for comment period, supersede the version published on January 23, 2024. Morningstar DBRS deems the proposed update not to be material and determined that no outstanding ratings are expected to change as a result of this update.

Comments should be received on or before July 8, 2024. Please submit your comments to the following email address:

Morningstar DBRS publishes on its website all comments received except in cases where confidentiality is requested by the respondent.

The Criteria details how Morningstar DBRS evaluates and incorporates 17 ESG factors in the assessment of its credit ratings across Governments, Financial Institutions, Corporate Finance, and Structured Finance. The revised criteria has been updated to provide additional clarity, including an updated “Climate Change Considerations” section, which provides further detail on Morningstar DBRS’ approach to analysing climate change risk, and how it can impact credit ratings. Within Appendix A some questions and examples have been added or updated. In addition the previous Appendix B has been removed as the Criteria already covers which factors are likely to impact credit ratings in the four different sectors.
