Sub-Sovereign Governments

Summary

On November 26, 2024, the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia (PC Party), led by Tim Houston, was re-elected with a strong majority in the Province of Nova Scotia (Nova Scotia or the Province; rated A (high) with a Stable trend), leading or elected in 43 of a possible 55 seats. Key Highlights
-- The Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia, led by Tim Houston, secured a second majority in Nova Scotia's 2024 general election.
-- Campaign commitments focused on healthcare, affordability, and housing.
-- Campaign commitments to reduce taxes are likely to result in larger deficits and rising debt. This will reduce flexibility within Nova Scotia's current credit ratings.

According to Travis Shaw, Senior Vice President, Sector Lead, Global Sovereign Ratings, "As we noted in our November 5, 2024, review, Nova Scotia has ample flexibility within its current credit ratings, although a prolonged period of moderate deficits and rising debt will reduce this flexibility."
