Morningstar DBRS Publishes Final Global Methodology for Rating Public and Not-For-Profit Hospitals and Health Systems

Morningstar DBRS finalized its Global Methodology for Rating Public and Not-For-Profit (NFP) Hospitals and Health Systems (the Methodology).

The Methodology presents the criteria for which Morningstar DBRS assigns and/or monitors credit ratings on private NFP hospitals and government-owned healthcare providers globally.

As discussed in Morningstar DBRS' press release dated October 21, 2024, the Methodology supersedes "Rating Canadian Public Hospitals." The Methodology is effective as of December 16, 2024.

The comment period closed on November 22, 2024, and no comments were received during the request for comment period. Morningstar DBRS does not expect the Methodology to lead to changes to any credit ratings. All comments received during the request for comment period have been published to the Morningstar DBRS website, except in cases where confidentiality was requested by the respondent.

Morningstar DBRS expects to assign Issuer Ratings based on the Methodology to currently rated Canadian public hospitals as part of its surveillance activity and credit rating reviews in the coming year.
