Morningstar DBRS Hosts Webinar on 2024 Earnings of Saskatchewan and BC Credit Unions

Banking Organizations
May 27, 2025

Earnings diverged between our rated credit unions in Saskatchewan and BC in 2024. As expected, asset quality deteriorated in both BC and Saskatchewan although the credit metrics of credit unions in both provinces, particularly in BC, remain relatively solid.

The ongoing trade conflict between Canada and the U.S. has introduced significant macroeconomic uncertainty and poses potential material downside risk to credit quality. However, we view the credit unions as being generally well positioned with sound liquidity, stable funding, and strong capital levels.

Join us on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EDT for a Frontline Perspectives webinar with our round-up on the 2024 earnings at Canadian credit unions. Presented by Jiani Wu, Vice President, North American Financial Institution Ratings, and Josh Veenkamp, Assistant Vice President, North American Financial Institution Ratings, the discussion will cover the variance in performance among credit unions, the effects of the current macroeconomic environment, and our outlook on the earnings and credit performance through the rest of 2025.

The discussion will be followed by a Q&A for all who wish to participate, and a recording will be provided at the same link for those unable to attend.
