Fairfax is a holding company whose subsidiaries are active in the P&C insurance and reinsurance industry. Subsidiary insurance operating companies are geographically diversified, with operations in Canada, the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia. They are managed through a decentralized multi-brand strategy. Investment management for all subsidiaries is provided centrally by Hamblin Watsa Investment Counsel Ltd. (Hamblin Watsa), a wholly owned subsidiary. The Company is controlled by its chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Prem Watsa, who has a 42% voting interest.
