Summary
Established under an act of Parliament in 1935, the Canadian Wheat Board's (CWB) primary objective was to market grain grown in Canada in both interprovincial and export trade. The governing act was amended in 1998, removing the CWB’s Crown agent status. However, it continued to benefit from an unconditional and irrevocable debt guarantee provided by the Government of Canada until it was acquired by a joint venture between Bunge Canada and SALIC Canada Ltd. on July 31, 2015. All CWB debt has now been retired.
